Chilean Gambling Authority Implements a New Casino Licensing Process

Under the modernised program, gaming establishments will be regulated at the state level. The new quota is set to open in May 2027, following the expiration of Rantrur S.A.’s current permit. In late October 2024, local authorities reviewed two technical applications for casino operations in Castro, Los Lagos, rejecting both requests.

The bidding process officially commenced on December 2nd, 2024, signalling the start of the transition to updated industry regulations. Applicants have 90 working days to submit their requests for operating casinos.

The hearing to review all suggested initiatives is scheduled for April 14th, 2025. Bidders may submit applications and gain technical clarifications until December 23rd, with all communication possible via e-mail.

Key requirements for candidates include:

• each municipality can host 1 to 3 entertainment facilities;
• the Metropolitan district may stay off-limits to all operators;
• gambling establishments must be located at least 70 km apart from each other.
